Olympics: A further NBC observation
by awindram
NBC’s Olympic coverage ended a few evening ago with Bob Costas making the following observation about US swimmer Missy Franklin.
“Franklin by the way is an honor student and a member of many school clubs including the Anglophile club. That’s right, there’s an Anglophile club at her high school. They apparently learn about the United Kingdom, speak in British accents, drink tea, eat scones. Well, when the group reconvenes in September its most famous member will have a gold medal.”
Disappointingly, I was not able to put Yankophile club down on my UCAS form even though we ate McDonalds, watched Rambo movies, and called one another ”motherfuckers.”
Hilarious. Can you imagine a group of high schoolers sitting round drinking tea with their “pinkies” in the air? Bit nerdy eh?
Perhaps Anglophilism is why the NBC studio appears to be a mocked up version of the library in Downton Abbey?
I refuse to believe you ever ate at McDonald’s.
I enjoyed picturing you at McDonald’s, uh, with your pinky in the air, and pronouncing “mo-fos” with perfect diction.
That made me laugh.
Disturbingly, the teenage me probably sounded something like this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4Zot1i7bJk&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Did you try to say ‘muthafukka’, or like Invisible Mikey said, was it actually ‘motherfucker’ with perfect diction? Off to check out the YouTube link…
