Over at The Displaced Nation blog I was asked to do a bit on the differences between American and British humo(u)r, specifically the idea that Americans really don’t “do” irony and/or sarcasm. Link here if you want to go and read it. Fair warning, that photograph is the best thing about it. Just quite what that chap with the placard is protesting, I have no idea. Bit harsh if it’s to do with any US foreign policy. No individual or organization has done a better job over the years of showing that Americans can “do” irony than the US Department of State.*
*Except for perhaps Richard M. Schulze when he decided to name his chain of electronic goods stores “Best Buy”.
