America Comprehended: Flag Day

by awindram

Flag Day: Not being an official federal holiday, Flag Day – held on June 14 – is a pointless day of celebration designed solely to appease to that part of the American psyche that venerates the Stars and Stripes in a peculiarly fetishistic way. The worst of these fetishists are gas station owners; a strange breed of American, gas station owners insist on flying US flags that are the size of Rhode Island. Never make the mistake of asking a Stars and Stripes fetishist about the correct way to fold the flag.
