But that joke isn’t funny anymore
It’s too close to home
And it’s too near the bone
It’s too close to home
And it’s too near the bone
More than you’ll ever know …

Trump wins GOP Arizona Primary

Clinton wins Dem. Arizona Primary

CNN’s election coverage tonight acted as a light, almost frivolous relief from their continuing reports on the terrorist attack in Brussels.

Not, when you scratch its grimy surface, that there is anything light or frivolous about these elections; it’s just that the optics of a reality TV blowhard with a face that looks like mildewing jack-o-lantern inch his way to the 1,237 delegates needed for the GOP nomination should be funny. Indeed, it seemed very funny for a while, back when Trump launched his campaign last summer, but Trump is the joke that just isn’t funny anymore, nor has he been for some time.

On the subject of terrorism, he has the easy fix – waterboard the bastards. “We have to change our law,” he said in an interview with Wolf Blitzer, “and we have to be able to fight on an almost equal basis.”

“We’re fighting by different rules. They have no rules or regulations and can blow people up, and have bombs so vicious with the nails and the glass and all the things come spewing out, blinding people and destroying people, and we have rules and regulations and we can’t water-board because it’s a little bit of a tough thing.”

It’s oddly reminiscent of his constant refrain about trade; we don’t get a good deal, we’re not on a level-playing field, blah, blah, blah. The simplest of answers to the most complicated of questions; he’s the Dunning–Kruger effect made flesh.

It’s almost impressive that in a day busy with his media interviews with dickaches such as Piers Morgan about how the nation of Jefferson and Washington should stoop to ISIS’s level, that he still managed to find time to tweet out threats to Heidi Cruz. Remember his promise to be the most Presidential of Presidents, his observation that only Lincoln would be more Presidential than him?

Minor observation:
Western Tuesday? Seriously, who comes up with these names and why were the CNN newsroom not all in flannel?
