I gave up trying to think of a coherent point to make with tonight’s post when I turned on CNN and was greeted with the image of Jeffrey Lord. Lord looked straight into the camera, and, ill-advisedly for a pundit, was silent. This is not a man you can easily sympathize with when his mouth is open, but silent there was something wretchedly pitiful about him – Trump’s humorless jester. His grey hangdog eyes and the etiolated sickly look of his skin give him the look of a man haunted by the pact he has made. And really, one cannot, however fleeting, find oneself feeling sorry for Jeffrey Lord – that’s no way to spend an evening. So I did what any self-respecting person would do and immediately turned off CNN and watched some Triumph the insult comic dog instead.
