Forty-two long, dark nights to go.

Daily election of interest: How Hillary Clinton Played Trump For A Fool
“Hillary is hitting me with tremendous commercials. Some of it I said in entertainment, some of it said to somebody who has been very vicious to me, Rosie O’Donnell,I said very tough things to her and I think everybody would agree she deserves it and nobody feels sorry for her.”
Donald Trump. Presidential Debate, 26 September 2016, Hofstra University.
We already knew that this election was going to be a tough one to explain to future generations, but the bizarro pop culture references that Trump has been throwing out are going to require some deep researching on the part of political historians in a century’s time. For instance, last night’s debate climaxed with a Trumpian rant against Rosie O’Donnell – a comedian and TV host who hasn’t been relevant for years, but who Trump feels wronged by. The two have, as some would put it, history, and so, appropriately enough, they will make history together as their feud, what two years ago was an embarrassingly minor TMZ scrap, has seeped into an actual Presidential debate, and so that is content that will need enumerating to future generations. A worthy political tome from 2116 detailing our current age of lunacy is now going to require a long and detailed footnote explaining who Rosie O’Donnell was. Even though they are not yet born – pity the political historians of the future.
