Election respite came this evening from the now unfashionable national pastime, although the sport felt fashionable and resolutely American – in all the best ways – this evening. Personally, I found it a relief to be experiencing something tense that wasn’t the election and talk around polls.
A few days ago a Cubs World Series win seemed unlikely, so don’t be surprised if in the morning Trump adopts the moniker of Mr Cubs, just as he did earlier with his Mr Brexit. Or maybe that would be a terrible tactical move considering he need Ohio, maybe it would be better to sympathize with Cleveland’s loss. Actually, can Clinton, an out and proud Cubs fan, now kiss goodbye to Ohio as undecided voters who are Indian fans turn away from a supporter of their vanquishers?
We don’t ultimately know what the ramifications of a Chicago Cubs World Series win will be. I’m concerned it may be portentous like the ravens leaving the Tower, a sign of impending disaster.
So this is the world we live in now, the Cubs are World Series Champions, Duncan’s horses are feasting on themselves, and Trump plans his inauguration.
